RNA is not simply an intermediate molecule that carries genetic information to be translated into proteins. By folding into specific structures, RNA molecules can perform diverse and highly regulated functions within cells. To comprehensively identify RNA structures across the transcriptome, we developed DMS-TRAM-seq, which has enabled us to identify thousands of structured RNA regions across diverse cell types and under different cellular stress conditions. My research aims to uncover functionally important RNA structures and their roles in cellular processes, leveraging these transcriptome-wide structural data. Ultimately, I seek to understand the fundamental principles by which RNA sequence and structure encode function in living cells.
